Papers, 1708-1767.

The collection, which includes notes made in 1954 by Albert G. Waite, contains several land deeds, summonses, and other legal documents, a detailed inventory, surveyor's notes, wills, an indenture for a slave for three years, estate records, and family letters from London. The inventory list of Joseph Lemmon's estate provides information concerning the furnishing of a colonial home. An indenture, dated 1708, and a deed, 1712, are located in the oversize folder. Newclippings filed in the collection demonstrate that the former Charlestown State Prison was built by Charles Bulfinch in 1804 on land once owned by Joseph Lemmon.
